One of the more common questions I get from my clients is asking about different symptoms, and wondering if it is related to their neuropathy. With over a 100 different causes of neuropathy, it is no surprise that every person with neuropathy, sufferers from different symptoms.
Today, I want cover some of the common warning signs of neuropathy, the little alarm bells that your body is using to signal that something is not going right.
Having difficulty with walking, and balancing is one of the most dangerous symptoms of neuropathy.
Statistics show that 1 in 3 adults over the age of 65 experience a fall every year.
20-30% of these falls result in moderate to severe injuries, including bruises, hip fractures, or head traumas…while 10% of these are fatal.
In fact, falling is the leading cause of injury and death among those over the age of 65.
Allodynia, or extreme sensitivity to touch impacts about 15%-20% of those suffering with neuropathy.
Describing Allodynia to someone not suffering from it can be a challenge. Imagine all of the simple daily tasks that involve something touching your skin - now imagine those simple tasks cause you excruciating pain.
Simple everyday tasks like; brushing your hair, putting on socks, going to sleep, and walking around can suddenly become daunting tasks.
Sleep disturbance can be a dangerous symptom of neuropathy. Without sleep, your body is in poor shape to heal.
